Der Mäuserbunker

Translated The "Mice Bunker" It's a building with a quirky name and a fascinating history, serving as an icon of Berlin's brutalist architecture. Supposedly, it has been a research facility for experimental medicine since 2003 and was once a hub for animal labs and experiments associated with the Freie Universität. Designed by the partners Gerd Hänska and Magdalena Hänska, the construction was completed in 1981.

Today, this imposing structure stands empty and abandoned, becoming the focal point of a debate: "Should it be demolished or preserved?" This debate began in 2019 and fortunately concluded with the official decision to designate the building as a monument under protection. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this controversial bunker!
