GEISEL

The Geisel Library of the University of California, San Diego
Designed by the American architect William Pereira and opened in 1970. Intended to look like hands holding up a stack of books the building/alien form which looks like a thing from a science fiction movie has been described as occupying “a fascinating nexus between brutalism and futurism” and beautifully occupies an ambiguous state between massiveness and levitation.
Fun fact: it was named in honor of Audrey and Theodor Seuss Geisel. Theodor is better known as children’s author Dr. Suess.
